Proposed Itumbe Tea Factory
The Project involved water supply comprising intake structures, treatment works at intake site, 4.0 Km of 100 mm diameter GI rising main, 100 m3 capacity of 10.0 m high elevated steel tank and 30.0 m3 elevated steel backwash tank.Structural works that comprised of 31.0 m wide x 63.0 m long withering building with steel roof trusses on structural steel columns supported on mass concrete footings, 25.0 m x 115.7 m production building having steel roof trusses supported on reinforced concrete columns on reinforced concrete footings, office block, building, boiler and generator house, ablution block, garage/service bay building and residential houses and flats for senior staff.Roads and Drainage involving 3.5 Km of open channel surface run-off drainage channel, paved internal roads and parking using pre-cast concrete paving blocks. 6.0 m wide, 2.5 Km of bitumen surfaced access road, footpaths paved with 60 mm thick pre-cast concrete blocks.
The challenging task was to establish building floor levels on the sloppy site and ensuring that all the storm water was directed to drain along the road on one side of the site to avoid draining into people’s homes.
The total construction cost was Kshs 242.5 million.
